To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to know it's called a shuttlecock. The term is extremely obscure, and without a solid grasp of theoretical linguistics it will go over a typical translator's head. The professional readers understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depth of the concept, to realize that it's not just a ball - it says something deep about the sport itself. As a consequence people who translate it as "ball" truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the wholeness in the expression "Shuttlecock", which its etymological origin is related to the ancient greek poet Archestratus. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those mediocre translators scratching their heads in confusion as the whole concept unfolds itself on their screens. How I pity them.
